Comparision of Real Measurements with Measurements Using Three-Dimensional CT in the Orbit

Abstract
recently, it is possible to obtain accurate anatomic measuremeuts of the distance, are and volume by using 3-D CT scanning. This is particularly useful in reconstruction of the orbit where standard roentgenogram and CT scans are of limited value.
By this reason, we have compared the measurments using 3-D CT scanning with real measurements of the volumes, areas and diameters in the orbit of artificial skull. Following results were obtained
1. volume 5 differences of bony orbit between real measurement and using 3-d CT scanning were as follows:
left orbit : 1.45 difference*
right orbit : 0.1% difference.
2. diameter % differences were as follows
Left maximum vertical diameter : 1.8% difference
right maximum vertical diameter : 0.6% difference
left maximum horizontal diameter : 0.6 difference
right maximum horizontal diameter : 0.6% difference
left maximum diameter along an axis from superolateral to inferomedial : 0.3% difference
right maximum diameter along an axis from superolateral to inferomedial : 0.3% difference
left maximum diameter along an axis from inferolateral to superomedial : 0.6% difference
right maximum diameter along an axis from inferolateral to superomedial : 0.3% difference
left maximum depth from axis to apex : 0.2% difference
right maximum depth from axis to apex : 0.2% difference
interorbital distance : 0.5% difference
3. Area % differences were as follows
left orbit axis surface area : 0.3% difference
right orbit axis surface area : 0.3% difference
*% differences from real measurement
